(Irving-AP) -- Clint Stoerner could become the Dallas Cowboys' third starting quarterback of the season if Anthony Wright is benched with a store right knee.

And Ryan Leaf may not be far behind.

With Wright's status uncertain because of a swollen right knee, the one-and-four Cowboys are preparing both Stoerner and Leaf for Sunday's game against Arizona.

A final decision on Wright's status won't be made until after the Cowboys get back results from an M-R-I on the knee. That should come today.

Coach Dave Campo says Stoerner would get his first NFL start if Wright isn't ready to play. He's a second-year player from Arkansas. And Leaf -- a former number-two overall pick signed earlier this month -- likely would get his first playing time in Dallas.

Tony Banks started training camp as the designated starting quarterback, but he was cut early in camp. Rookie quarterback Quincy Carter, whom Dallas drafted in the second round this year, started the opener, but he's been fighting thumb and hamstring injuries. Wright has started three of five games for the injured Carter.
