(Irving-AP) -- Dallas Cowboys fullback Robert Thomas was put on injured reserve Monday -- officially ending his season.

The Cowboys activated tight end Johnny Huggins from the practice squad, with plans for him to share the fullback duties with Troy Hambrick, who also backs up running back Emmitt Smith.

Thomas had surgery last week to repair torn ligaments in his left ankle. He suffered the injury in the Cowboys' 9-to-7 win over Washington on October 15th.

Thomas was the only fullback on the Dallas roster.

Huggins has played in two games, with two catches for five yards.

The Cowboys also signed two players to their practice squad -- fullback Terry Witherspoon, a rookie free agent who was with San Diego in training camp, and receiver Richmond Flowers, who was in camp with Jacksonville.
