ANTLERS, Okla. (AP) _ Two brothers are on the lam after overpowering guards and escaping from the Pushmataha County jail on Sunday.

James Doyle Loven, 22, and Nicholas Adam Loven, 21, were being held on burglary and drug charges.

The two broke out of the 43-bed jail in Antlers about 3:20 a.m. Sunday after blocking an electronic door with a cloth, authorities said. They put the cloth over the lock when returning from a shower.

When a guard walked past their cell for a head count, they rushed out the door and overpowered him, Sheriff Elven Flood said. They then knocked down a jailer, gained access to a control box and opened the outside door.

Authorities from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and surrounding counties joined the manhunt Sunday, using aircraft and dogs.

``We almost caught them Sunday afternoon, but it got dark too fast and they got in the woods,'' Flood said. ``They just eluded us, that's all.''
