The 94th annual Tulsa State Fair has come and gone, and though final attendance numbers were down, organizers are still claiming it was a success. 1,043,000 people passed through the gates. That's down about four percent from last year.
Officials say they expected a slight drop in attendance considering the terrorist attacks and local layoffs that followed. Tulsa County commissioner John Selph, "I think that's exceptional, there were layoffs, 750 some odd people out at American for example. The weather was good, we could not have asked for better weather for the Tulsa State Fair."
Despite the drop in attendance, gate sales were up 17% compared to last year. Coupon and mega pass sales were up 7%, as were food and beverage sales. The biggest increase came at the PRCA rodeo. Tickets sales to it were up 62%.
