TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Williams' board of directors named a new president and chief operating officer Thursday, the company announced.

Steven J. Malcolm, head of Williams Energy Services division and a corporate executive vice president, was appointed president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.

The announcement was in keeping with a planned transition that was announced in March.

Keith Bailey will remain chairman and chief executive of Williams but will relinquish the president title to Malcolm, 52.

Bailey, 59, is expected to retire from the company next May, Williams said.

Malcolm joined the Tulsa-based energy company in 1984 from Cities Service Co.
