LOS ANGELES (AP) _ ``American Pie 2'' fended off a rush of new films to remain the top movie for a third straight weekend, grossing $12.5 million.

The top 20 movies at North American theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. and ACNielsen EDI Inc.:

1. ``American Pie 2,'' Universal, $12.5 million, 3,157 locations, $3,965 average, $109.3 million, three weeks.

2. ``Rush Hour 2,'' New Line, $11.6 million, 3,001 locations, $3,842 average, $183.4 million, four weeks.

3. ``Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,'' Miramax, $11 million, 2,765 locations, $3,985 average, $11 million, one week.

4. ``The Others,'' Miramax, $8.6 million, 2,436 locations, $3,516 average, $46.1 million, three weeks.
