Tulsa Public Schools announced formation of a new foundation to support district schools. The Foundation for Tulsa Schools has received donations totaling more than $880,000 from Tulsa area businesses.

Williams, the Zarrow Foundation and Public Service Company of Oklahoma are among the donors. The money will be used for grants to support excellence in public education. Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent, Dr David Sawyer: "Well, I think anything that impacts the classroom is our overall objective. We want to make a difference in the classroom - it's our hope that we'll be able to deliver a quality experience for our kids each and every day, and to do that, I think we'll need to take advantage of every resource we can garner.”

Sawyer says the foundation will also focus on staff development and teacher incentives. The foundation kick-off was held Monday morning at the new Tulsa School for Science and Technology.
