NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ High school guidance counselors throughout the country say the University of Oklahoma is one of the most academically challenging schools in the United States.

A survey of guidance counselors also says OU has one of the best values for the tuition dollar.

The findings of the Kaplans Annual National High School Guidance Counselor Survey are published in the recently released Kaplan/Newseek College Catalog 2002.

The professional survey is conducted by a national market research firm. The firm used a random sample from a list of public and private high schools, then surveyed guidance counselors.

The survey reports that an increasing number of students are using the Web to research and apply to colleges. It says 98 percent of guidance counselors surveyed say their students use the Internet to make college-selection decisions.

OU is one of 18 schools nationwide included on the Best of the Web list by Kaplan.

OU also was on the recommended list of schools that are academically challenging, defined by Kaplan as schools with the highest academic standards.
