(Waco-AP) -- Baylor quarterback Greg Cicero has been granted a sixth year of N-C-A-A eligibility.
The school in Waco, Texas, was informed yesterday of the NCAA decision.
The university had petitioned the NCAA for the extra year after Cicero broke his collarbone last year in the season's second game -- against Minnesota.
The NCAA allows student-athletes a five-year period to complete their four years of eligibility. But the organization can waive the five-year rule for reasons that are beyond the control of the student-athlete or institution.
Cicero qualifies for the waiver because he missed two football seasons -- 1998 and 2000 -- due to injury.
Cicero was attending the University of Texas when he missed the 1998 season with a preseason knee injury.
The Anaheim, California, native is now classified as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining.
