HEUPEL Honored by Big 12

(Dallas-AP) -- Former Oklahoma quarterback Josh Heupel has been named male athlete of the year by the Big 12 Conference.

Heupel led the Sooners to the national championship last season. He was Big 12 offensive player of the year and runner-up for the Heisman Trophy.

The female athlete of the year is Greichaly Cepero, who played volleyball and basketball at Nebraska.

The honors announced yesterday were chosen by administrators from each conference school and media.

The selections were based on athletic performance and academic achievement, with citizenship as a tiebreaker.
