NINE sites added to National historical register

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A Stroud cafe along Route 66 and two structures designed by renowned architect Bruce Goff are among nine Oklahoma properties added to National Register of Historic Places.

The State Historic Preservation Office announced the additions Tuesday.

New on the register are Tulsa's White City Historic District, a residential neighborhood planned before the Depression but built after World War II, and the Historic Downtown Sulphur Commercial District.

The Rock Cafe in Stroud, open since 1939, made the register for being a significant structure along historic Route 66.

Goff, a former head of the University of Oklahoma school of architecture, designed two projects now on the list. The H.E. Ledbetter house in Norman is considered an example of Goff's so-called ``organic'' design philosophy.

He also designed the Riverside Studio in Tulsa, a new register addition that reflects the influence of both Art Deco and International styles.

The First National Bank building in Stratford was placed on the register along with the ``Y'' Chapel of Song in Edmond, the Jones Farmstead in Jones and the Oklahoma Odd Fellows Home in Checotah.
