Tulsa Police arrest an escapee just hours after he makes a run to freedom.
22-year-old Norwood Wheeler II managed to escape from detectives downtown around 7 PM Thursday. Wheeler was arrested for his role in helping pass stolen checks at the Bank of America at 71st and Lewis. Police say Norwood was left in a small holding room while detectives did paperwork. He escaped with his handcuffs still on. But he was recaptured around 1:30 AM Friday. Tulsa Police Sgt. Tommy Terneus says, "He was trying to make contact with an associate, several units on the department set up various surveillance and we end up arresting Mr. Wheeler without incident in the 5800 block of South Vancouver."
A second man was also arrested. Police took Washington Cadwalleder into custody for harboring a fugitive. Wheeler faces charges ranging from escape to robbery.
