OWASSO, Okla. (AP) _ A man was killed Tuesday when he scuffled with an off-duty police officer outside an Owasso apartment complex, authorities said.

The off-duty detective was at the complex when a disturbance was reported to the police department around 7:30 p.m., Assistant Police Chief Cliff Motto said. The officer had asked four males to leave the property.

``There was some type of drunken disturbance,'' Motto said.

One witness said the males had been repeatedly told to leave the pool area since they were not residents.

When the officer became involved, one of the males charged him repeatedly and struck him, said Shay Wright, who lives at the complex.

At some point during the struggle, the officer drew his pistol and shot the man once from about 10 feet away, Wright said.

Motto said the officer involved in the shooting had been with the department at least three years.

Authorities have not released the name of the officer or the man who was shot.
