(Arlington, Texas-AP) -- The Texas Rangers have put right-handed pitcher Francisco Cordero on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday.
Cordero has had pain and tightness in his lower back. He aggravated a back injury during batting practice Wednesday.
To replace Cordero, Texas recalled right-handed pitcher J-D Smart from the Oklahoma RedHawks.
Cordero started the 2001 season on the disabled list after sustaining a stress fracture in his back during spring training.
