McALESTER (AP) _ Investigators who visited the site of an airplane crash near McAlester Tuesday say the plane probably crashed Sunday afternoon.
They identified the pilot, the only person in the plane, as 56-year-old Jack E. McCall of Ozawkie, Kansas. The single-engine plane went down in a wooded area near the McAlester Municipal Airport. No one at the airport noticed the crash on Sunday afternoon. McAlester Municipal Airport is an uncontrolled airport, meaning pilots can take off and land when they please.
A helicopter crew with the Oklahoma National Guard spotted the wreckage in the woods Monday. Authorities say McCall fueled his plane about 3 PM and took off about 40 minutes later.
