BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) _ A Bartlesville police officer has won a lawsuit he filed after being disciplined for failure to write tickets.

District Judge John Lanning ruled that Lenard Ames Jr. was unfairly disciplined for failing to meet the traffic citation quota for two months.

Evidence used at trial included police policy manuals listing the number of tickets that should be issued during each shift.

After several hours of testimony by the current and former police chiefs, Lanning said it was apparent that Ames was doing his job and the crime unit was understaffed.

Ames testified that it would have been easy to write the tickets, but as a crime unit officer he felt that there were more important things he could be doing.
