HADDON HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) _ Two Haddon Heights youths allegedly beat another child with bats after their team lost a pickup baseball game.
The unidentified boys _ ages 9 and 10 _ were charged with aggravated assault in the May 31 incident. One of the boys has since filed a countercomplaint against the 9-year-old victim, claiming he was kicked in the back and punched in the stomach.
Authorities said several youths played in the game at Glenview Elementary School, which one team apparently won by a lopsided score. Many players then left the school, but some later returned to play basketball.
After the latter game broke up, the victim said the two boys approached him from behind and hit him with an aluminum bat and a plastic bat. He also said the two youths punched and kicked him during the attack.
The complaints have been forwarded to Camden County Family Court, but it has not been decided whether a formal hearing will be scheduled.
