CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) _ A 16-year-old Oologah boy has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his father.

Cody Tyler Phillips was charged Tuesday in the death Jerry Glenn Phillips, 52, during a fight at their home on the night of May 24.

The defense has the option to ask that Phillips be recertified as a juvenile, but the issue won't be determined until after a preliminary hearing, said Assistant District Attorney Patrick Abitbol.

Authorities said the boy stabbed his father in the throat with a butcher's knife.

Cody Phillips was arrested five days later on a complaint of first-degree murder.
