There's a trademark controversy brewing and it has to do with Union High Schools "U" on sportswear, helmets and uniforms.
It seems the University of Miami has a national trademark on it. Union has been using the "U" since 1992. It's agreed not to use the emblem on any new merchandise.
Union trademarked its "U" with the Oklahoma Secretary of State in 2000.But the University of Miami registered it with the US Patent and Trademark office. Union officials are trying to set up a timetable with Miami to phase out the "U".
It could take some time; Union says it can't afford to buy all new uniforms next year.
