(Shawnee-AP) -- A man shot by a Shawnee police officer remains in critical condition.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kym Koch says Charles Michael Wright of Shawnee was in the intensive care unit at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City last night.

Wright underwent surgery Monday after being shot by officer John Goss.

Shawnee police say Goss will remain on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Goss was responding to a domestic disturbance between Wright and his sister when the shooting occurred. Wright was armed with a knife.

Koch says the officer told Wright to drop the knife. When he didn't and walked toward the officer, Goss shot him.
