The Tar Creek area in Ottawa County has been at the top of the Environmental Protection Agency's superfund list for more than 20 years.

Residents are frustrated by continuing health problems and pollution in the area. Tuesday night, via teleconference, residents had a chance to talk with people from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho facing a similar problem.

They want the EPA to clean heavy metals from a site, which encompasses 1,500 square miles. This is the first of many meetings. There are mixed feelings on whether or not there's been success between the nations superfund sites. "Most people don't want 'em there, don't want 'em doing nothing. And up here, we know fact, there is a problem, and we'd like to have them here to finalize it, to complete the problem.”

The EPA has committed $89-million in soil remediation in Idaho. That's about the same amount that's been spent in the Tar Creek area.
