The rankings are out on America's safest cities, and according to the results, Tulsa isn't fairing too well.

Of the 342 cities surveyed, Tulsa ranks 267. When outlying suburbs were included, the Tulsa metro area ranked 221 out of 271 cities.

The figures were based on 2001 FBI crime statistics including murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and car theft.

St Louis received the dubious distinction of being the most dangerous city. Amherst, New York is dubbed the safest.

The data was compiled by Morgan Quitno, a Kansas research and publishing company.
