The state budget crunch is quickly becoming a crisis for Oklahoma schools.
Union Public Schools says it's short $3.6-million in state money. To deal with the cuts, Superintendent Dr Cathy Burden is asking all 12-month employees to take a day off without pay. It's all voluntary and it could save the district about $30,000. Burden is even asking Union teachers to take one of their professional development days without pay.
Burden says she expects more cuts are coming. "We want people to know that we have a response that is appropriate but we will have to take it a day at a time and see what comes."
All of the days would be taken during days when school is not in session, so it won’t affect the classroom.
