(Norman-AP) -- University of Oklahoma officials say the Internet is fueling an increase in student cheating.
OU says 204 students were nabbed for academic misconduct in the 2001-2002 school year. Two years earlier that number was just 92.
Many of the cases involve students using unattributed material from the Internet for their class papers.
Greg Heiser of the university says the students aren't necessarily dishonest. He says they've just never written an assignment without a computer before and are maybe a little unsure of their own words.
Heiser says many students don't realize the Internet also makes it easier for professors to catch plagiarizing students. He says professors can type in parts of a student's paper and search the Web for where a phrase has been used before.
