The University of Oklahoma received one of their largest gifts ever Tuesday from a Tulsa family.
The $6-million commitment from Vintage Petroleum chairman Charles Stephenson and his wife, Peggy is making possible a cutting-edge research facility on OU's new research campus. The contribution was previously announced as an anonymous donor. But Tuesday at the regular regent's meeting, the donor's identity was revealed.
Charles Stephenson, "When we heard about the center and the impact it could have on the state we thought it was a good way to not only help the university but the state as well."
The construction on the 93,000-square foot research complex will start next summer. It will be on OU's south campus in Norman. Its purpose is to stimulate economic development in Oklahoma.
