(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The state Transportation Department in the Oklahoam City area is stepping up enforcement of laws that prohibit auto dealerships from parking cars on public easements.
The practice is prohibited by a 1968 law, but officials say it's inconsistently enforced. Auto dealers say parking cars and trucks by the road is a great way to attract the attention of passing motorists.
Three roadways in the metro area are being targeted; Northwest 39 Expressway through Oklahoma City, Bethany and Warr Acres; State Highway Three through Oklahoma City and Warr Acres; and State Highway 62 through Oklahoma City, Midwest City, Spencer, Nicoma Park, Choctaw and Harrah.
State workers are marking the easement boundaries showing where the public easement begins.
The Oklahoma City area is the only area in the state increased enforcement is planned.
