(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A new racing schedule has been approved for Oklahoma City's Remington Park.
The Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission today approved a 70-day racing schedule that includes a 20-day meet for quarter horses, Appaloosas and Paints.
The commission, over objections from Remington officials and thoroughbred interests, amended a compromise agreement among officials of three state race tracks.
The change dropped thoroughbreds from a proposed 20-day mixed meeting at Remington from August 7th to September 1st. It kept a 50-day meet of thoroughbreds from September 5th till November 30th next year.
Officials of quarter horse organizations opposed the compromise. They dispute claims by Remington that its financial problems were tied to requirements that it hold quarter horse races.
