(Oklahoma City-AP) -- SBC Southwestern Bell has signed on to Oklahoma's Amber Alert child abduction program.
SBC says the company plans to notify its 900 field service technicians when a child is abducted in the state.
Technicians will be notified via pager and laptop when an Amber Alert is issued. They will then call police if they spot questionable or suspicious behavior or vehicles identified in the alerts.
The Amber Alert program was created to alert the public to life-threatening kidnapping situations via radio and television.
In case of an abduction, descriptions of missing children and suspect vehicles can be quickly broadcast. Electronic road signs and e-mail also are being used in the alerts.
