RALEIGH, North Carolina (AP) _ Peter Bondra and Jaromir Jagr scored second-period goals, and Olaf Kolzig stopped 37 shots as the Washington Capitals beat the slumping Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 Thursday night.
The Capitals have won their first three games for the first time since starting 4-0 in 1997-98. All of Washington's wins have been by one goal.
Meanwhile, the defending Eastern Conference champions have started slowly, going 1-3-0-1 in their first five games, scoring just nine goals. Ron Francis scored the Carolina goal.
Flyers 3, Islanders 3
In Philadelphia, Brad Isbister's goal with 2:08 left in the third period lifted the New York Islanders into a tie in the Flyers's home opener.
Michal Handzus, Jeremy Roenick and Todd Fedoruk each scored for the Flyers, who remained unbeaten. Philadelphia is 2-0-2 under new coach Ken Hitchcock.
Shawn Bates and Mark Parrish also scored for the Islanders, who are unbeaten in their last two after losing their first two games.
Islanders goalie Garth Snow made a point-blank save on Chris Therien seconds into the overtime to preserve the tie, and a pad save on Mark Recchi with just under 2 minutes left.
The Flyers held a 41-26 shots advantage.
Sabres 4, Rangers 4
In Buffalo, New York, Pavel Bure scored his third goal in two games with 8:51 left in regulation and the New York Rangers earned a tie with the Sabres.
Bure's wrist shot hit the far post and deflected in off the skate of goalie Martin Biron. Bure, who missed the first three games this season because of illness, has three goals and two assists in two contests.
Eric Lindros scored his first two goals of the season, and Bobby Holik also scored for New York, which has won two straight after being outscored 10-1 during a two-game losing streak.

Bruins 3, Flames 3
In Calgary, Alberta, Joe Thornton assisted on all three Boston goals in a tie with Calgary.
A streaker scaled the glass near the penalty box during a stoppage in play with just over five minutes to play and went onto the ice.
Wearing only a pair of red socks, he slipped when his feet touched down, and he landed hard on his back. He was apparently knocked unconscious when he banged his head on the ice and was motionless on his back beside the boards.
After a delay of six minutes, he was removed on a stretcher.
Chris Clark, Tony Lydman and Chuck Kobasew scored for Calgary, winless in three home games this season.
Glen Murray, Bryan Berard, and Jonathan Girard scored for Boston, 2-1-1 on a season-opening six-game road trip.
Wild 3, Stars 1
In St. Paul, Minnesota, Marian Gaborik scored two goals for unbeaten Minnesota and Manny Fernandez made 33 saves against Dallas.
Pascal Dupuis had two assists for Minnesota (3-0-1), which handed Dallas its first loss.
The Stars outshot the Wild 34-24, but Fernandez didn't yield a goal until Ulf Dahlen scored on a power play to make it 2-1 with 4:09 remaining.
Gaborik, the 3-year-old franchise's first-ever draft pick, scored his first two goals of the season and reached 50 for his career.
Blues 7, Blue Jackets 1
In St. Louis, Keith Tkachuk and Eric Boguniecki scored two goals each as St. Louis beat Columbus.
The Blue Jackets, who have never won in six games in St. Louis, lost their third straight game.
The Blues scored on three of their first five shots and led 3-0 just 7:11 in.
Blues rookie goalies Reinhard Divis and Curtis Sanford combined to allow just one goal, defenseman Jaroslav Spacek's tally with 11.4 seconds remaining.
Divis left because of a groin injury with 52 seconds left in the first period after he stopped all 10 shots he faced. Sanford made 12 saves in his NHL debut.
Canadiens 3, Red Wings 2
In Detroit, Andreas Dackell, Saku Koivu and Andrei Markov scored as Montreal spoiled the home opener for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

The Red Wings got off to a great start with Brendan Shanahan's goal early in the first period.
But Montreal tied it on Dackell's goal early in the second, and then went ahead on Koivu's goal early in the third. Markov made it 3-1 at 9:52 of the third.
Pavel Datsyuk pulled the Red Wings within a goal with 6:23 remaining.
Montreal goalie Jeff Hackett stopped 30 shots in his first start in place of Jose Theodore, last season's Hart and Vezina Trophy winner.
Detroit's Curtis Joseph _ who replaced the retired Dominik Hasek _ stopped just 11 shots.
