OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Police arrested a 13-year-old Oklahoma City boy on Monday for allegedly stabbing another boy he claims bullied his younger brother.
Ricardo Cardenas, 12, was in fair condition with a stab wound to the back, said Sgt. Greg Giltner, an Oklahoma City police spokesman. His condition was upgraded from serious condition.
The assault happened just after 3 p.m. near Rockwood Elementary School in southwest Oklahoma City. Cardenas had gone to the school to pick up his brother, police said.
After leaving, Cardenas got into a fight about a block from the school, officers said.
As the injured boy ran back to the school for help, his attacker fled. Cardenas is a former student at the school, officials said.
The wound to Cardenas' back didn't puncture his lung as feared, said Paul O'Leary, a spokesman for Emergency Medical Services Authority.
The alleged attacker was seen a few minutes later at a nearby community center. From there, he was chased to his home and arrested on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon, Giltner said.
The 13-year-old told officers he confronted the other boy because Cardenas had been ``picking on'' his younger brother, Giltner said.
