(Denver-AP) -- Tulsa defensive tackle Sam Rayburn is the Western Athletic Conference's defensive player of the week.

League officials say they were impressed by Rayburn's performance in the Golden Hurricane's loss to Kansas. Rayburn had nine tackles, one quarterback sack and one quarterback hurry.

Rayburn has 33 career tackles for lost yards and needs seven more to tie the school record.

Rayburn is a senior from Chickasha.
