(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A 3-year-old girl left alone with her 8-year-old brother has died in a fire at a northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex.

The body of Jade Jackson was found in the bedroom of the apartment by firefighters shortly before 10 last night.

Fire Major Brian Stanaland says the girl and her brother were in the apartment alone and apparently using a candle for light.

Stanaland says the candle ignited something in the bedroom.

The boy escaped the apartment and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, then taken to a local hospital.

Stanaland says other residents in the complex managed to put out the fire by using water jugs and a garden hose, but were unable to get to the girl because of heat and heavy smoke.
