For some students, they may have their sights set on Broadway, the bright lights, the fame, and the chance to become a star. For one young lady from Jenks, it was a dream come true as she was swept away from the local stage to stages across the country.
Earlier this week, News on Six anchor Leanne Taylor had the chance to catch up to this rising star. The year was 1997, Jenks High school and the musical, My Fair Lady. The leading lady, Julie Hanson. "I was in all the musicals in high school, study further.â€
This is Julie Hanson today, returning to her alma mater to share her experiences with other students. Julie is currently on tour with the Broadway production of Phantom of the Opera. They've made a stop this month in Oklahoma City and Julie has time to come home and visit friends and family in Tulsa.
It's been a whirlwind experience; she was studying at OCU when she got the call to join the cast. “Oh, I was in shock, very exciting." Julie alternates the lead role of Christine in the touring company, and wowed audiences around the country. "It's a great role, kind of fun." Julie's contract with Phantom is up at the end of the year after that, she's not sure, but you can bet one day she'll make to the great white way, starring on Broadway.
Phantom of the Opera closes this weekend in Oklahoma City. There are a few tickets still available for the remaining show, so you can call Celebrity Attractions at 477-7469 or 1-800-869-1451.
