NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ A concussion suffered during the weekend will delay the return of Oklahoma backup quarterback Brent Rawls, coach Bob Stoops said Wednesday.
Rawls, a redshirt freshman, was hurt when he fell out of the back of a pickup truck Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
``The concussion to Brent Rawls is more than was anticipated,'' Stoops said. ``He could be out up to six weeks.''
Rawls also is recovering from surgery to fix ligaments in his right thumb. He injured the thumb in a scrimmage in early August, and it had been hoped he might be back for the South Florida game on Sept. 28. The second-ranked Sooners are off this week.
``We'll analyze it week to week and we'll go from there,'' Stoops said.
Freshman Paul Thompson will continue as the backup to Nate Hybl. Thompson played about a quarter-and-a-half against Texas-El Paso on Saturday.
