Every fourteen minutes, a new name is added to the list of 75,000 people currently waiting for organ transplants. Each year in the US, more than 6,000 die waiting.
The Deputy Surgeon General of the US came to Tulsa this weekend. He's recognizing Oklahoma donors and their families. Rear Admiral Kenneth Moritsugu was the keynote speaker. When his wife and daughter died in the 1990's, they were organ donors.
Stephanie Baker's son's organs were also donated so that others could be saved. "Its a bittersweet feeling, its a humbling feeling. I hate that my son is gone, but the fact that he can help so many people continue with life, he was a hero to me."
Experts say one organ donor can help as many as 100 people.
