State revenues are way down. And that's bad news for Oklahoma schools, in particular, Tulsa Public Schools.
A $6.5-million shortfall in state money forced Tulsa Public Schools to trim its budget over the summer. Now state officials are asking schools to tighten their budget belts again.
State revenues continue to defy projections. And fewer tax dollars means state officials are again scaling back money for schools. TPS officials say they're facing another $6-million in revenue reductions. As a response to the news, Tulsa Public Schools has declared a district-wide hiring freeze. But they emphasize no one has been fired.
They say the cuts and savings made over the summer to replace the district's $7-million reserve will now be used to absorb these new reductions.
