(Undated-AP) -- A state lawmaker in Kansas wants to end the practice of allowing students from Oklahoma and three other states to attend school in Kansas at no cost.
The practice has gone on for years, costing Kansas taxpayers more than two (m) million dollars last year alone.
Kansas state Representative Ralph Tanner wants the practice to stop, saying it's ridiculous when Kansas districts are scraping for money.
The additional students translate into additional state money for Kansas districts, which get state aid for resident and nonresident students.
Kansas school districts allow students from Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska and Colorado to cross into Kansas and attend classes for free.
