GRANITE, Okla. (AP) _ A 16-year-old boy was killed and two other teenagers were injured Monday after the vehicle they were riding in went off the road in Greer County and flipped.
Leon James Harman of Willow died at a Mangum hospital of massive head injuries after the crash at 3:30 a.m, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said. Harman flew 12 feet from the vehicle, troopers said.
The driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Derek DaWayne Lowell of Elk City, was in critical condition with internal and back injuries at an Oklahoma City hospital, authorities said. Lowell landed 25 feet from the vehicle, troopers said.
Another passenger, 18-year-old Manasseh J. Redden of Elk City, was treated for an arm injury at the Mangum hospital.
Lowell apparently overcorrected his vehicle after going off a dirt road near Granite, troopers said. The vehicle went into a slide and overturned once.
None of the teens was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
