MIAMI (AP) _ Tropical Storm Dolly formed Thursday in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean but was not threatening land, forecasters said.
At 10:30 p.m. EDT, Dolly was 715 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. It was moving west at 13 mph and had sustained winds of 45 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
``It's there. Watch it,'' forecaster Jack Beven said. ``But there's no reason to worry about it yet.''
It would take Dolly several days to reach the eastern tips of the Caribbean islands, Beven said. The storm is 3,100 miles away from Miami.
Dolly is the fourth named tropical storm this year, but none of the previous three named storms became hurricanes.
The 2002 Atlantic hurricane season began June 1 and ends Nov. 30.
