A Stillwater man faces a 15 year prison sentence after pleading guilty to 10 church burglaries.
Marceline Chavez Linzy, 47, pleaded guilty Friday to 17 counts of second-degree burglary. He could have received as much as 17 life prison terms if he had been convicted by a jury, his attorney said.
``I've spent a lot of time working with Mr. Linzy,'' attorney Bob Brown told the court. ``I think the jail will confirm that when he's sober, he's a fine fellow to work with.''
Linzy has been in jail since January. The burglaries happened between September and December. Cash, checks, candles, frozen food, television sets and other property worth a total of $3,016 were taken. Damage from the burglaries was estimated at more than $3,100.
District Judge Donald Worthington also ordered Linzy to pay $8,133 restitution, which includes money he owes from a 1994 conviction for obtaining money by false pretenses in Payne County.
Linzy has previous convictions for larceny and drug crimes.
