(Rhinebeck, New York-AP) -- Two circus elephants were trapped for more than two hours Friday morning after the truck carrying them crashed and overturned.

Officials with the Carson and Barnes Circus, based in Hugo, Oklahoma, confirm one of their trucks was involved in the accident in New York but could offer few other details.

New York state police say the crash occurred on Route 9 in Rhinebeck, near the Dutchess County Fairgrounds.

The elephants were removed from the overturned trailer and put on another truck by 10:30.

The circus was in the Albany area Wednesday and Thursday and was headed to Poughkeepsie for a show Friday.
