(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A new state Web site listing the addresses of convicted sex offenders is raising interest and causing concerns.
The Corrections Department says the site went online last month and got more than 13,000 hits from Internet users.
But some fear it gives parents and others a false sense of security. Oklahoma City police Lieutenant Bo Mathews says many offenders are incurable and can easily move from their listed address.
University of Oklahoma sociologist Harold Grasmick says the Web site's a sign that society has given up on giving criminals a second chance. Grasmick says the tactic will likely just make offenders commit more crimes.
