(Norman-AP) -- The Oklahoma softball program hires one of the nation's top offensive coaches.

Sooner head coach Patty Gasso said today that she's hired the University of Houston's top assistant coach.

Howard Dobson led the Cougars to national rankings in batting average and scoring last year.

At O-U, he will be in charge of outfielders and hitting instruction.

Dobson replaces Tim Walton, who was named head coach of Wichita State in June.
