Former University of Tulsa golfer Nancy Lopez is being called one of New Mexico's favorite daughters.
Senator Pete Domenici of New Mexico paid tribute to Lopez by recalling her lifetime of triumphs in a Congressional Record statement.
Lopez grew up in Roswell, New Mexico, before playing for Tulsa for two years. She turned pro in 1978 and ended her full-time career on the L-P-G-A over the Fourth of July holiday.
Lopez has won 48 L-P-G-A titles and is a member of the L-P-G-A Hall of Fame.
Domenici says Lopez overcame hardships like racial and gender bias to reach remarkable heights as a golfer and an inspirational role model.
