(St. Louis-AP) -- A new national study says the number of traffic deaths in Oklahoma is the same as the national average.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says there were 1.5 traffic deaths in Oklahoma for every 100 million miles traveled during 2000, the same as the national average.
Arkansas had the highest average in the eight state region that includes Oklahoma with 2.2 deaths per 100 million miles traveled. Illinois had the lowest average in the eight states with 1.4 deaths per 100 million miles.
