ENID, Okla. (AP) _ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has concluded his coaching stint with the Oklahoma Storm, which won the United States Basketball League championship Sunday.
Team spokesman Eric Newendorp said Tuesday that the NBA Hall of Famer and team owner James Sears Bryant reached a ``mutual decision'' that Abdul-Jabbar would end his involvement with the team.
He referred further questions to Bryant, who didn't immediately return telephone calls.
Assistant coach Todd Chambers will take over the head coaching job.
The Storm defeated Kansas, 122-109, for its first USBL championship.
After the victory, Abdul-Jabbar, who helped the Los Angeles Lakers win six NBA championships, waved the gleaming trophy above his head as confetti streamed down from the roof of the Mark Price Arena.
On Monday morning, Abdul-Jabbar returned to Los Angeles.
Abdul-Jabbar said when he became Oklahoma Storm coach earlier this year that he was interested in pursuing a career in coaching and felt this job would be good experience.
