The US Army Corps of Engineers has begun releasing water from Kaw and Keystone Lakes.
The Corps had been withholding water to help lower the Arkansas River while crews removed debris from the I-40 collapse in late May.
Releases from Keystone began Tuesday night, while releases from Kaw Lake began Wednesday morning.
Water from those lakes will help interior least terns nesting on the river's banks near Tulsa.
