(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A spokesman for Governor Keating says the governor is leaning strongly toward signing new rules that restrict smoking in public places.

Spokesman Dan Mahoney says Keating favors the rules.

But Mahoney also says the governor is reviewing them carefully to make sure they're consistent with the law.

People on both sides of the issue have been inundating the governor's office with faxes, letters, e-mails and phone calls.

Mahoney says Keating should make a decision by the first or second week in July.
