(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A penny tax for capital improvements in Vinita and a McIntosh County sales tax were among the few winners in Tuesday's elections around the state.

Vinita Mayor Joe Johnson says the tax's passage will generate 167-thousand dollars a year and probably let the town finish closing its landfill which hasn't operated in 11 years.

The McIntosh County tax will fund road improvements, county government and the sheriff's office. County officials say it's especially important for senior citizen groups and rural fire departments.

Elsewhere voters OK'd taxes that will give Pottawatomie County a new jail and let El Reno maintain a city-owned golf course. The Choctaw-Nicoma Park school district also approved a bond issue for school improvements.
