You have seen those lines at Krispy Kreme, hundreds of people waiting in line for some Krispy Kreme doughnuts. News on Six reporter Rick Wells saw the lines too, and he decided perhaps a more convenient place to get doughnuts is in his own kitchen. A doughnut recipe you can make at home.

Look at the line, long line even longer wait, it's enough to have you making' your own doughnuts at home. All you need is a recipe and Dennis Berno a chef at St. John Medical Center has one he's willing to share. "There's not a lot involved Rick, there are three cups of flower, some salt, and one cup of warm water. I'm gonna dissolve yeast and some sugar."

He says the water should be warm to the touch, but not hot or the yeast won't work properly. Add a beaten egg and some oil, then add the yeast mixture, mix it well then cover it with a warm cloth and let it rise. Rick Wells, "That takes about how long." Berno, "About an hour. We're gonna roll it out." And cut some doughnut shapes but if you don't have the cutters, you can use. "A drinking glass and the top to a 20 ounce soda, or bottled water. You gonna lay these out on a tray and let them rise again for another 45 minutes."

Then they go into a pan of hot oil. Dennis has the oil in an electric skillet, heated to 375 degrees. You could also use a skillet on the stove, turn them in the oil until they are a golden brown color, then you're ready to glaze 'em. "The glaze is water and powdered sugar."

So now you got home made doughnuts. Here's a nice feature to making your own, there are always people waiting to scarf them up, but the lines are more manageable.
